What started Tuesday with one man picketing at the Douglas County Schools Administration building in Castle Rock grew to about 10 Thursday. All said they were there to support teachers and protest recent decisions made by the Douglas County School Board.

State decides against budget cuts for 2012-2013 school year

State announces no cuts in K-12 funding, district teachers in line for raise

For the first time in four years, the state won’t cut school funding for the 2012-13 academic year.

The news is a relief to Douglas County School District teachers and staff, braced for another round of potentially painful cost-saving measures.

Douglas County Schools: $66 million is not a ‘surplus’

Although Douglas County Schools have struggled financially over the past few years, they also had some unspent money in its 2010-2011 budget. A $66.4 million balance, or a “rainy-day fund,” as the schools are calling it.

Douglas County Schools Honored!

Members of the Peace Jam Club at Ponderosa High School are being recognized as sustainability experts and a national model. Students have saved their school more than $300,000 by cutting electric bills and the amount of trash they send to the landfill.
