Castle Rock votes to offer naming rights for buildings, parks

Individuals or businesses will now be able to buy the right to name a Castle Rock building, park or other facility.
Castle Rock Town Council voted unanimously Oct. 1 to amend the current town policy for naming parks and facilities to allow individuals or businesses who, for a significant donation, want the opportunity to have naming rights.

The day they broke ground on the Philip S. Miller Park, town leaders called it the crown jewel of Castle Rock.
With the promise of a 225-acre park that includes a 60,000 square-foot fieldhouse, water features, amphitheater and up to five miles of trails, the town on May 15 hosted a ceremony among the park’s peaks to celebrate the start of construction.

Lone Tree’s traditional Fourth of July celebration could end on a different note in 2013. In anticipation of another potentially dangerous wildfire season, city council members debated alternatives to the fireworks display — including a laser light show — during their April 16 meeting.

Castle Rock Man Guilty of Housing Fraud

Castle Rock man pleads guilty to housing scheme

Alois Craig Weingart, 59, pleaded guilty to one count of making a false statement to a bank April 8 before Chief U.S. District Court Judge Marcia S. Krieger and is scheduled to be sentenced July 8, the U.S. Attorney’s office said in a statement.

Local author Paula Mitchell shared tasting tips and suggestions about pairing wines and foods when she spoke at Bemis Library last month — and she especially talked about Colorado’s growing collection of wineries, as described in her 2012 book, “Exploring Colorado Wineries.”
She is stopping again in the south metro area at 6:30 p.m. April 26, when she will appear at the Highlands Ranch Library, 9292 Ridgeline Blvd. For reservations, call 303-792-7323.
