The Town of Castle Rock selected a new finance director after a three-month search to replace Charles Montoya… Town council chose Trish Muller, who has been serving as assistant finance director since 2009, to replace Montoya. Muller looks forward to the strategic fiscal leadership position and has been part of building a “great team” in the finance department over the last several years, she said.

Councilmembers voted on Oct. 2 to reverse their July decision to approve John Medved’s request to install a 45-foot LED sign at his car dealership. The vote took place in front of a crowd that met the decision with a round of applause.

Douglas County Brings Education to the Internet Airwaves

The Douglas County School District is taking news about its approach to education to the airwaves, recently launching a weekly radio show called “Let’s Talk Education.”

“Let’s Talk Education” broadcasts live at 3 p.m. each Wednesday from the Castle Rock studios of CastleRockRadio.com, an Internet talk radio station with shows on a variety of subjects. The education show is re-broadcast several times each week, and archives also are available on the DCSD Web site.

What started Tuesday with one man picketing at the Douglas County Schools Administration building in Castle Rock grew to about 10 Thursday. All said they were there to support teachers and protest recent decisions made by the Douglas County School Board.

In the end, the exterior tiered terrace, complete with an outdoor fireplace and bar at the Country Club at Castle Pines, became part of a $5 million renovation that includes an expanded kitchen, a private room for meetings, a panorama bar at the entryway, a grill bar with three flat-screen televisions, a fine-dining area, a social lawn for outdoor events and a kitchen with double the capacity of the previous kitchen.

The new club, which debuted for its members in June, is Colorado casual, as the club evolves with its membership, Reyhons said.

Reed and Partridge are on the Republican ticket as the party’s options to replace term-limited commissioner Steve Boand in the district that represents Castle Rock and most of the county’s southern region.

The Lone Tree Brewing Company, which opened just before Christmas, is dispensing its rotating half-dozen craft brews at a rate already beyond the owners’ highest expectations. This summer, 130 more taps will open in Lone Tree when the Yard House debuts in the Vistas at Park Meadows. With any luck, a Lone Tree Brewing Company paddle will be among them.

Coyotes Scare Lone Tree into Management Team

Five small dogs and a cat killed in the Lone Tree area this spring have prompted the city’s police department to form a coyote management team. State wildlife officials will train citizen volunteers in hazing techniques designed to re-instill fear of humans into wild animals that have grown too bold.
