Independence Day Fireworks Shows in Colorado

List of 2013 July 4th fireworks shows throughout Colorado

Fireworks

With many fire bans across the state, check out The Denver Channel for a complete list of fireworks celebrations for this year’s Fourth of July!

Here are a few from our favorite areas:

CASTLE ROCK – Fireworks display is CANCELED due to Stage 2 fire restrictions.

DENVER – On WEDNESDAY, July 3, the fourth annual Independence Eve Celebration at Civic Center Park will feature a free patriotic concert by the Colorado Symphony, a light show on the Denver City and County Building and a stunning fireworks finale. There will also be fireworks shows at Coors Field, after the Colorado Rockies play the Los Angeles Dodgers on July 3 and 4. And the Outlaws will have a fireworks show after their July 4th game at Sports Authority Field at Mile High. You can also catch a fireworks display at Elitch Gardens, starting at dusk on July 4.

HIGHLANDS RANCH – Fireworks show CANCELED due to the current Stage 2 fire restrictions in effect in Douglass County. The fireworks will be postponed until Oktoberfest on Sept. 21, 2013.

LITTLETON – The Fourth of July Family Festival and Fireworks Show is planned for Thursday, July 4. The city says it will continue to monitor the drought and fire conditions, and will follow any directives that are passed down from the governor’s office or the Arapahoe County Sheriff. If everything goes as planned, events will be held at Belleview, Progress and Cornerstone Parks near the intersection of Belleview and Windermere. There will be strict enforcement of laws prohibiting alcohol and personal fireworks — including sparklers. Pets are strongly discouraged.

LONE TREE – Fireworks have been CANCELED due to the current Stage 2 Fire Restrictions in place in the City and throughout Douglas County. However, the concert and celebration will continue. Residents from Lone Tree and Acres Green can attend the celebration on July 4 at Sweetwater Park. Wristbands are required for entry. Celebration begins at 4 p.m.

SEDALIA – Fireworks show canceled by West Douglas County Fire Department.

Questions About Douglas County School Board Executive Meeting

Douglas County School Board executive session questioned

December 21, 2012
By Jane Reuter
From OurColoradoNews.com

School Board

Under questioning from a resident, Douglas County School Board members defended their Dec. 13 executive session. The nearly two-hour sessions are commonplace under the current board, but Cindy Barnard isn’t sure they’re warranted.
“I’m hoping for an explanation as to why certain items up for discussion in executive session were not discussed publicly tonight,” she said. “I really don’t understand why any of these discussions took place behind closed doors.”

Read more about the executive session and the questions surrounding it at Our Colorado News!

The Annual Turkey Trot and Food Banks in Castle Rock

The holiday season can be tough on an empty stomach. Most food banks and pantries in Colorado are serving up to two hundred families per week at the moment. The demand is high, and the supply is low with most food banks running out of food weekly. Please help out families in need and donate any non-perishable items you can this holiday season. Many food banks are also accepting turkeys. The demand for proteins is highest so if you can spare any type of nut butters or canned beans, it would be much appreciated! You can view a complete list of food banks in Castle Rock (or any Colorado area) at FoodPantries.org.

Turkey Trot

You can also help this Thanksgiving by participating in Castle Rock’s Annual Turkey Rock Trot! Both runners and walkers are welcome! Race day registration begins at 8.30 AM on Thanksgiving Day at the Douglas County Events Center located at 500 Fairgrounds Drive. The race begins at 9.30 am. The registration fee is $35 and includes a t-shirt and bib. Children under the age of 13 are welcome to participate at no cost. All proceeds will benefit the Douglas/Elbert Task Force. There will also be a canned food drive the day of the race, and participants and spectators are encouraged to bring donations!

Start the day out right and maybe burn some extra calories at the same time! More details and registration information about the Turkey Rock Trot at RockTrot.com!

Each year Orr provides Fleck with a list of about 20 kids who hope for a bike for Christmas and, each year, Fleck delivers.
